I.S.D. has two Career and Technology Education (CATE)
Counselors who provide career focus and information
for 14,000 Kindergarten through 12th grade students
in the district. “Connecting Education to Careers
. . . Helping students achieve success through career
preparation” is emphasized throughout the CATE
Guidance Department. Jeanie Bragg, Division I CATE Counselor,
is based at Denton High School and provides services
to the DHS feeder schools. She can be reached at (940)
369-2020. Patsy Chilcote, Division II CATE Counselor,
is based at Ryan High School and provides services to
the RHS feeder schools. She can be reached at (940)
369-3025.
The
CATE counselors help students:
-
Gain the latest occupational information.
-
Expand and consider a variety of career options.
-
Narrow potential occupational goals.
-
Plan course selections which support career goals.
-
Understand career interest assessments.
-
Prepare individualized four-year high school plans.
- Develop
post-secondary plans.
-
Facilitate the development of Tech Prep degree plans.
As the student explores different occupations,
he/she will want to explore more resources to gain information.
To save time the student will want to know what type
of information each resource will provide. Within the
Denton Independent School District several resources
are available.
Career Center Resources:
The Denton High School Career Center is located in the
center corridor building on the DHS campus. The Ryan
High School Career Center is located across from the
school office in room 101. Provided in both career centers
are books that will assist students in the career investigation
process. Other resources include resume, job interview,
and “developing your portfolio” books. Current
interlink information, Electronic Resources and Career
Development Center information also are available.
Career and Technology Education Courses:
More than seventy career and technology education courses
are offered for students’ career education process.
Students are encouraged to start with the High School
Connections course and proceed by taking a coherent
sequence of courses throughout the Career and Technology
Education Department.
