Work
Programs
CO-OPS
Students may choose
to receive THREE high school elective credits per year for attending one
Career Preparation class and working 15-20 hours per week in a related
career field. Students are paid for the hours employed and must follow
the guidelines established by the DENTON ISD. (Students also may receive
a P.E. WAIVER of ½ credit per semester for career preparation courses.)
Students must have an approved employment location by the end of the first
week of the semester in order to earn credit. Students will receive teacher
assistance in job placement.
Students are eligible
for an early release from school in order to report to their employment
location. Students will receive instruction concerning work ethics, attitude,
employers' expectations, and goal setting. Students will be monitored
at the employment location and receive on-the-job experience and training.
The majority of these students tend to graduate with increased earning
potential. Students must be 16 years old to be considered and their attendance
and grades will be evaluated. Enrollment is by application only and must
be approved by the instructor or the career & technology counselor.
Students should review the different career options and select the course
based on individual interest.
NOTE: There are two credit courses that are unpaid internships
available in the areas of child care, hospitality, health careers, computer
repair and criminal justice.
Prerequisite for all work programs: 1) Age 16 or older 2) Application
approved by the instructor or Career & Tech. Counselor.
Agricultural
Science & Technology Career Preparation I & II |

Resources, Horticulture, Mechanized Agriculture, Value-added &
Food Processing, Food & Fiber Production, Agriculture/Agribusiness.

| Employment placement
must be in a related business area that could be defined as: Accounting,
Administrative Procedures, Business Computer Programming, Computer
Information Processing, International Business, and other related
business positions. |

| Employment
placement must be in a related family & consumer sciences area
that could be defined as: Services for Older Adults, Child Care, Food
Production, Food Management, and Food Services, Hospitality Services,
Institutional Maintenance Services, Textile and Apparel Services,
Home Furnishings and Equipment, etc. |

Dynamics & Marketing Management |
| Employment
placement must be in a related marketing area that could be defined
as: Fashion Marketing, Food Marketing, Hotel Management, Restaurant
Management, Services Marketing, Travel & Tourism, General Merchandising,
etc. |

Trade
and Industrial Career Preparation I & II |
| Employment
placement must be in a related trade or industrial area that could
be defined as: Computer repair, Communications & Media Systems,
Construction-Maintenance Systems, Electrical-Electronic Systems, Industrial
& Manufacturing Systems, Metal Technology Systems, Metal Technology,
Personal and Protective Service Systems, Transportation Systems, etc. |
The course listed
below is designed for students eligible for special education services.
Enrollment is based on Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee
decision and instructional arrangement.
Vocational
Adjustment Class (VAC) |
| The
Vocational Adjustment class is a work/study program designed to transition
students with special needs into the world of work. Vocational training
and job experience are continued with academic courses in a special
curriculum that leads to maximum development of employment potential.
Students are responsible for securing their own employment.
