$carcity

We read a story that dealt with the concept of scarcity.

We drew pictures that compared scarcity and no scarcity.

( They were great pictures, but I sent them home before I copied them - OOOPS! )

Work and it$ Reward$

Children identified work done by members of their families and

the rewards of their labors. We realized that people may work

for pay or may work for other resons and rewards. Children

also thought of jobs that first graders could do to earn money.

Here is a short list of our ideas:

$ Do chores

Hat $hop

$$$ making a budget and sticking to it $$$

HATS OFF to these students who are using math skills and economics

lessons to make and decorate hats.

We have been using our heads to make our hats!

The hats are made!

Now we are ready to visit the hat decorating shop and place an order for the items that we want to use to decorate our hats. Each child was given 25 cents to spend on hat decorations. Each child created an order for the supplies they would need and added up the costs to make sure they were within their budget before getting their order filled at the Hat Shop.

Look at those fancy hats now!

HATS OFF to a great lesson in making a budget and decorating within it!
